Works by the process of elimination. By the time you have reached the last question, your number is the only common denominator in the series of questions. Quite simple.

I could not get past the house. I think third click, my number is never there. Try choosing #25 and see if it comes up.

Actually, I can explain this a lot better than a vague guess of elimination by series of questions.
There are only TWO questions you need to answer, the rest is smoke and mirrors stuff.
The first question asks what colour your number is. There are only 5 numbers in each group of colours. Straight away it knows your number is 1 of 5 possibles.
Then there is some smoke and mirrors stuff to mislead you.
Then there are 5 houses, you pick the house that has your number. If you check, each house has 1 number from each colour group - 1 of each of the 5 possible numbers after the first question.
After more smoke and mirrors, you pick a door. The program will already know by this time what your number is and put it behind the door you pick.
kids stuff really.
