Roads, take it easy!
For sometime now I have studied the Thai why of driving and Ive never seen so many stupid idiotic knobs on the road here! Just a little rant!
Be warned, for starters, there is oil, fuel and poopoo on all the roads this comes from all after market pipes, that the Thais think are great! Just the other day I saw a road sweeper, wow I thought, but looking down as I was following, all I saw was full of rainbow colours, oil? Nah, thinking that this must be detergent of some sort I thought I would preceeded slowly, just in case, others saw no danger, to my amazment later on I saw the same tanker filling up with water from the side of the road, whats this all about? Surly rain would do just as good? Whats happening here?
Even the roads are so cheaply made, by allowing some high powered bloke to skimp on materials, so he can pocket some extra cash to build his house or gamble with, these roads soon end up with pot holes, or repaired pot holes that become dangerous bumps!
But most of all, what is the highway code here? I have been on the Twin lotus road, aiming to take my daughter to school left of Buddies bar, I move over to the inside centre lane when safe to do so,indicating, then when I enter the centre of the road at the right time to a stop and turn left with indicators turned back on again, people still think its safe to overtake me on the right? Surly they know I am turning, or is it just because I am a bike? 3 times now ive nearly had my front wheel taken off from speeding trucks who think just a push on the horn allows them full right of all the road!
Now I understand why alot of people come to a stop on the left, wait then speed across the road! Remember this whilst riding there is no care for your life here! There wont be a forth time! Finished rant!

Very true, best wait for a space before crossing any road.

Go with the flow... When in Rome, do as the romans.....
I do a lot of cutting off, might be time to think about using indicators and placement in the road...
They do follow their rules (generally)... We just don't understand them.
PS... Have you not modified your bike sir?

Follow the rules? I think they follow their own rules which they seem to make up as they go along!

Re: Roads, take it easy!
Yes I had at one time modified my bike, only for looks and slight performance, and it wasent like I added nitro or anything, just for some extra boost, for the little thing and,yes one was a sports pipe I added, yes it was loud, instantly I aimed to quieten, after several weeks experimenting, bandaging the pipe and baffling to get performance at low decibels, me and my mechanic decided that it wasent worth the constant attension (this was no race bike) The Honda mechanic sorted the carb for me, so it was ideal to put the standard pipe back on! And still have my extra performance.
The steed was a different story, the pipes needed replacing, rusted through in many places, my mechanic offered to make custom stainless pipes for half the cost and half the time to get the originals, and a complete better look! These pipes were not straight through, I had them baffled, so I dont lose performance, and dont make a menace on the road, it still sounded a little loud at times, on full throttle but not as loud as the real annoying baffle free polluting ones that make you cringe when they go by like what I was on about, but the main post was on about immature drivers who dont take care and attension on the roads for others, you know what I meen sir!

Re: Roads, take it easy!
What do you expect in a country where they do not require a lisence to ride a little bike? And mum and dad seemingly does not care about what their little podes are doing at night.
And the fact that the police is not interested in doing their jobs unless they get special money for it...
What do you expect???
We might complain that there are too many rules back in the west, but that is the cost of an orderly society where pot holes are dealt with... Where the police will fine, EVERYONE that is not using a helmet!
Give and take...
Over here, this is how life is, out of sight, out of mind... Not my problem and not my fault (even if it is).
As Sean say, they make their rules as they go! Unless ... There is a chance for the police to make more money as they do have once a month, payday time...
They don't care, Nobody cares, so stop caring, there is nothing you can do about it...
I know what you mean.

Re: Roads, take it easy!
I had a road trip to Phuket and back the other week (beat that Snowflake!).
On my way there I counted 6 accidents (and not all in my rear view mirror I might add).
Didn't notice any coming back as it was dark - although I was confronted a few times by vehicles overtaking in crazy places and coming head on at me.
PS Admin, you might want to look for an update for the forum as this one does not work 100% in the updated browsers. Note the position of some avatars and stats in the posts (they are wrapped onto a new row instead of alongside the post).
