Satun, what's it like?
Anyone been down there lately. What was it like? Can you write a little report/review for those who might be thinking about going down?
Re: Satun, what's it like?
It is what we would call dead!
I was there a few years ago, dropped off a few students... not a very pleasent stay if you look for some fun, but if you want a quiet time, thats the place!
Admin, I think Freebird has been there once or twice!

My wife's family is from Langu, some 30 kilometers from Satun.
Satun is nothing special, but when going to the beaches around Satun, you will find the best and some of the ONLY 5 Star beaches in Thailand! They're really lovely!
You can rent a beach bungalow in Langu from 400 baht per night....with air con!

Re: Satun, what's it like?
Just come back from there. Wanted to do some diving in the area, but everyone just directed us to Lipe (meaning about 2 nights stay and paying for dive centre; which I wanted to avoid).
The plan was to hire a local boat / fisherman to take us out, not all the way to Lipe, but deep enough water for a dive and where there is some nice coral and marine life.
It seems everyone there is just happy with what they have and are not interested in making any extra cash. We went to all the ports and nobody was interested.
It is a complete contrast to Krabi or Phuket etc where everyone is touting for business. Those that approached us just wanted to offer information and help.
Nice place, but nothing for us to do other than relax.
We paid 600 p/night for an aircon villa that was tops. Very clean, buckets of hot water, Hi Def TV with quite a few English chanels.
We had a drive around and noticed there was a lot of recreatonal stuff set up for the locals. Playgrounds for the kids, many people jogging at the stadium track, which also had football pitches and exercise machines dotted about the place; all free to use.
If you want to get away from everything then this is the place. We were never hassled or had people shouting "hello" or "hey you" at us.
Pak Bara Port had some nice little eating areas. Mostly Chinese/Japanese tourists there as far as I could make out.
Again, people just wanted to help us, nobody looking to hard sell us something we didn't want at a "special price".

He he, not surprised about your difficulties in Langu
90% of the locals are Muslims and they tend to care more about themselves than about the tourists....but I agree, they´re very, very friendly!
