And you guys keep telling me that this will not happen to Khanom... So, take the pictures now and then send those pictures out in 20 years...

It'll happen for sure, sometime in the future .... sad but true. Hopefully I'll be long gone by then, dead and buried or ashes floating in the atmosphere.
The thing is once all of this country's beautiful secluded beaches etc are gone so will a lot of its appeal.

Well, I for once hope that you will stick around for atleast another 10 years...
You might move, but I sure don't want you to die, not yet, atleast!

KhaoLak was the same less than 15 years ago. A small road going through the place and nothing else. I haven't been back since the tsunami but even then the place had been developed at an unbelievable speed. What it's like now, I have no idea - a mess like Patong maybe as I have a feeling the idyllic beach that it once was has probably been destroyed for good.
Re: What Patong used to look like.
See, and still you claim it will not happen to Khanom the next few years... I can't belive that... You know that when it first kicks off it will happen so quick...
NO DOUBT!!!

The difference is that Khanom is so close to Samui which is already built up, touristy and outgrowing its infrastructure. Do you really think they'll have another Samui within a stone's throw of the original?

It might well happen, that I cannot influence at all but at the speed Khanom has changed in the last couple of decades I can't really see it happening. Having said that, I would not be surprised if it did change fairly rapidly because the tourist $ often makes things happen quickly, especially when the cockroaches who call themselves land/property developers want to make a big buck. I for one would not like to see it change but I know I am too far down the food change to make a difference and there is very little I can/could do to change that.
Re: What Patong used to look like.
there is another place which is changing... near tasala ( north)
i have noticed new chalets getting built along the coastal road.. so something is kicking off... someone wants to make money on the lovely quiet beach line.. i sometimes head out there because it is so peaceful and beautiful. sometimes you are sharing the beach with about 6 other people ..

Re: What Patong used to look like.
since Cheveron has moved more stuff up closer to khanom, i do have reasons to believe that they know something....
Ps... Has anyone noticed that the airport is building a new terminal? I have pictures but they are on my notebook (which i do not have now)...

Um, Admin... thanks for chiming in on this one. You see, Goldy was just giving Snowy a hard time because of his misspelling of "west", so I thought it would be fun to point out Goldy's bombastic English as well.
And, would I be the "spelling police", as that is what I was correcting?

I have no idea of what you are trying to say ..... any chance of that in English?
Re: What Patong used to look like.
I've heard you talk Admin, and if that's what you call "English" then I guess I can't do it. Besides, I don't think my keyboard has keys for some of the sounds you make.

Re: What Patong used to look like.
like small children all of you... Soon it will be he pushed first, no he did... Children...
West and vest were deliberatly spelt wrong, since i vas corrected by the queer's propper English....
Ps, why do you all feel it is so important to correct other peoples mistakes? Dont you find it a bit silly?
For me... I am not even an english teacher anymore so i will go apeshit with my spelling...
As for sounds huango... You have made some sounds lately that is far from English...
Watch it... Both of you...

Re: What Patong used to look like.
it is only good if you are a tuk tuk driver... prices have shot up in price since the one way system... and it takes longer to get from A to B.

Re: What Patong used to look like.
a s-9rt walk in patong will not hurt anyone, only your pocketbook, walking from A to B will require lots of small stalls getting more people to stop by... Thai stimulous of local economy... It is still your choice, bike/taxi or walk... For me... A short walk will not do anything but good...
