Plenty of fighting on the box but pretty much the only differences I can see is that UFC is in a cage while the others are not. Sure the UFC seems to have a lot more groundwork but there is hardly any differences between the three of them when the fighters are standing.

Kicks and punches are all the same, so is the locks and preasure points is a body... The different names is from the origion and just for people to classify their Art.

That said, there are small minute details that are different in each Art, but in a fight, they are all the same.

Some Arts will focus on different moves and that will help them agains other fighters. But in general, they are all the same...

K1 - This is a combo of all of the "K" martial arts, e.g. Kickboxing, Kung Fu, Karate, etc.... But it's essentially just kickboxing. They use big gloves and ground fighting is completely foridden.

Bushido - This spin-off form Pride FC was developed with the ancient art of sumo in mind. There are no closed hand strikes, but kicks are legal as is Brazial Jui Jitsu. It's rather fun to watch the open weight stuff they put on.

UFC - This was the first organization to make style vs style fight cards, and was originally a bit of promotional tool for the Gracie family's BJJ. Today the UFC is the current watershed of talent in the world, frankly, and has fighters taking bad contracts just to make it in the "big time". Today the rules are fairly wide-open, but far refined from the "anything goes" matchs of the early to mid- 90's.

Today the rule set for MMA in the USA has been standardized, for the most part, and flies under the name "the unified rules of MMA". They forbid soccer kicks to the head of a grounded apponent, eye gouging, fish-hooking the mouth, groin strikes, attacking the digits, throat strikes and few other things. The now defunct Pride FC allowed kicks and knees to a grounded fighter, and some people still argue today that it should be allowed in the UFC. It's doubtful that will happen as the sport is still considered human cock-fighting by many.

Win iz "before" to u??, 'cuz if we be talking about dem RomanZ, thn thier pwnage wuz major compard 2 UFC!

Honestly though, UFC is currently fairly well produced however there are plenty of other MMA events which aren't readily available to watch. These smaller promotions certainly aren't being "made for TV", but they can still put on good cards.

If I could choose one thing to improve MMA in general it would be a universal ratings system. In every other "serious sport" statistics are recorded exhaustively and so they actually mean something. Where as in the UFC there is no clear road to the championship other than the most profitable one for Zuffa. If that is the case, the UFC is immediately relegated to the realm of "Entertainment Sports" like Wraaasalin' and Monster Trucking!

Any way..... I agree I wish there was a bit more transparency in the match making process.

Cheers

So, then ..... who do you think is the best all round fighter in the cage today?

My favourite is that St John Pierre (sp?) and I used to think Tank Abbott was just an animal, crazy for a couple of minutes and then his wind would go and he'd get beaten to a pulp.
