Hi people, “VIRUS WARNING”

Most of you are teachers here and you are very prone to this, I’ve helped a few people out with some movies recently and every time I plug a USB stick into my computer, I get a warning of some sort of win32 virus, due to many using there stick for school stuff, normally a quick quarantine sorts this out etc…

Well to the point, recently there has been a virus known as win32/addup it was first found in Sept 2008 but known as a different name, this now has been improved and not many free protection software can find it, including AVG, and AVIRA.

This problem has affected my system several times now, and I’ve recently done the fix for the same person twice now, there is no stopping it, and it takes a while to learn about it and fix what it does, so here is what you need to know….



1. Format your USB stick

2. If your explorer still does a search in your default search engine, type win32addup fix

3. Download the 2 fixes, (I can’t find the link I used) one is for personal pcs and the other is for networks, I ran both.

  • This will not seem that it has done anything but made things worse, now go to tools, you might have to right click explorer icon on desktop and open without add ons, depending on how this virus has effected the system, now go to internet options, programs, manage add ons, click the top button on, add ons that have been used for internet explorer, disable or delete everything in the list, ok it, then restart explorer, open again without add on (right clicking on IE) Tools, Internet options, advanced, reset, then reset explorer, or restart pc.
  • The updates are up to you, I just wait until I get asked that I need the active x etc….. Everything fixed.

Thanks for that, the kids here have over time given me all kinds off bad stuff. Won't touch any of their memory sticks now.
